I want to be a butterfly, so beautiful and free
To fly above the humans as they admire me
Admiring eyes, and wondrous smiles survey my majesty
Do they ever realize how the beauty came to be
The metamorphosis from a tree, twelve legs and clinging tight
Beginning with a crusty shell, no loveliness in sight
The transformation story of this beauty, a gift it’s true
She wants to share so you can know you can become anew
Sometimes within us there is loss
That crusty shell, a heavy cross
Please know the butterfly in you, is there, you can depend
We have to strive to find our hope, find beauty in the end
To cling tight to a crusty shell, a branch, or that old tree
You must not, you cannot, now come and fly with me.
